Informed Consent — Unify the Lit

Unify the Lit offers a mentorship program designed specifically for individuals from Dalit communities, providing a safe and respectful space for emotional healing, personal growth, and empowerment through guided mentor-mentee conversations. Please review this document carefully before beginning your mentorship journey.

1. Acceptance

  • You are at least 18 years old, or have consent from a parent or legal guardian if under 18.
  • You have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.

2. Nature and Scope of Mentorship

  • Mentorship at Unify the Lit is a collaborative process meant to foster self-awareness, empowerment, and wellbeing.
  • It is not a quick fix or guaranteed cure — growth depends on your commitment and participation.
  • Mentors use conversation, reflective exercises, and evidence-based guidance, but they do not provide medical advice or prescribe medication.
  • This mentorship is not a substitute for crisis intervention. If you are in immediate danger, please reach out to trusted contacts or emergency services in your area.

3. Confidentiality

Your privacy is deeply respected. All sessions with your mentor are confidential, except in cases where disclosure is required by law or ethical duty:

  • If there is a threat of harm to yourself or others.
  • If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult.
  • If disclosure is required by a court of law.

Your mentor will discuss such cases with you if they ever arise.

4. Professional Relationship and Boundaries

  • The relationship between you and your mentor is professional and built on trust, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Boundaries are essential to ensure your emotional safety and maintain the integrity of the mentorship process.

5. Mentor’s Rights

  • A mentor may refer you to another expert if your needs go beyond their scope or experience.
  • Sessions may be paused or ended if there is disrespectful behavior or a violation of professional boundaries.
  • Mentors are not liable for decisions or actions you choose to take in your personal or professional life.

6. Mentee’s Rights

  • You have the right to end mentorship at any time by informing your mentor.
  • You can ask questions about the process, tools, and techniques being used.
  • You are encouraged to co-create your mentorship goals and reflect on progress regularly.

7. Scheduling, Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • Sessions are scheduled for a set duration agreed upon in advance.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the session.
  • Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled time are not eligible for refunds.

To cancel or reschedule, please contact your mentor or Unify the Lit support team directly.

8. Legal Acknowledgement

By proceeding with mentorship through Unify the Lit, you acknowledge that this consent is legally binding and serves as proof of your agreement to these terms.

9. Social Sensitivity and Caste Context

Unify the Lit recognizes the historic and ongoing social realities faced by Dalit communities. All mentorship sessions are conducted in an environment of mutual respect, equality, and non-discrimination. Mentors are trained to provide culturally sensitive guidance, and every conversation is intended solely for learning, reflection, and empowerment.

No statements, discussions, or materials shared through this program are intended to offend, discriminate against, or disadvantage any individual or group on the basis of caste, religion, gender, or background. If any participant feels discomfort or perceives content as offensive, they are encouraged to raise it with the Unify the Lit support team for resolution and clarity.

By participating, you acknowledge that Unify the Lit, its mentors, and its representatives shall not be held liable for any personal interpretation or perception of caste-based offense arising from open or good-faith discussions within the mentorship process.

10. Legal Protection, Policy Agreement, and Liability Disclaimer

By providing your consent, you confirm that you have also read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of Unify the Lit. This consent forms a part of those documents and carries the same legal force.

Unify the Lit, its mentors, volunteers, and associated partners act in good faith to provide emotional, educational, and community-based support. The platform does not offer medical, psychiatric, or legal advice, and should not be used as a substitute for professional healthcare or legal counsel.

You agree that Unify the Lit, its mentors, and its representatives shall not be held responsible or liable for:

  • Any direct, indirect, emotional, or incidental effects arising from your participation in mentorship sessions.
  • Any personal, social, or professional actions or decisions made by you following mentorship sessions.
